ACTIVITY SPECIALIST

CATEGORY OF EMPLOYMENT/CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt, Seasonal

DEPARTMENT: Camp Jotoni

JOB SUMMARY: Provide nature based activities to campers in season.

LOCATION:   As per the need of the service; generally work is performed at the Camp facility. Remote and office work to be determined by Camp Director.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Assistant Director 

DIRECTION OF OTHERS: All Camp personnel and participants.

POSITION WITHIN TABLE OF ORGANIZATION:  See Table of Organization

EDUCATION:   High School Diploma or equivalent required.  Undergraduate degree in Special Education, Physical Education or related area preferred. 

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING: A minimum of two years of administrative camping experience required.  Similar experience with adults/children with developmental disabilities also required. Demonstrates ability to exercise professional judgment necessary. Must have good ability to interpret agency policy-philosophy; and to direct/supervise program staff. High degree of confidentiality necessary.

EQUIPMENT:   Must possess a valid NJ driver’s license and be considered insurable by the Agency’s auto insurance carrier.  Must be capable of driving a van or, if necessary, another vehicle.  Must be capable of operating other recreational or programmatic equipment as needed.

JUDGMENT AND INITIATIVE: Must demonstrate high degree of creativity and independent direction; must work well with minimum supervision.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must communicate well both orally and in writing in English with all levels of staff, families, outside persons and service recipients.

WORKING CONDITIONS/HAZARDS: The behavior of consumers may change dramatically without obvious cause, which may create, at times, hazardous situations.  High degree of understanding and application of appropriate safety measures and remediation required.
